Gati has in various capacities contributed towards development of community, promoting education and protecting the environment thereby contributing to develop a better society.

Environment

Green Initiative
As a step towards its internal green initiatives, Gati has made it mandatory for all its Express Distribution Centres across the country to plant and maintain a green stretch in and around their Premises.
Recycling of eWaste, an initiative towards Green IT
Recycling of eWaste, an initiative towards Green ITSince the last 3 years, Gati has been disposing off its old IT hardware in an organized & environment friendly way. All the old IT hardware is consolidated and handed over to Eco Recycling Limited for recycling. This initiative is aimed at reducing air and water pollution caused by hazardous disposal. Additionally, recycling also reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by the manufacturing of new products and helps keep the environment green.
Support to Wealth out of Waste ("WOW") Project
Maye village, Bhuj district, Gujarat GATI has always been committed towards building a clean and green society. As a step towards this, GATI is supporting ITC-PSPD LTD. & RRRL's National Recycling Project - Wealth out of Waste ("WOW"). This project aims to protect the environment and reduce Global warming by creating awareness among the people on the importance of 'Recycling' - encouraging themto segregate waste and dispose it responsibly. GATI is supporting this environmental cause by collecting recyclable materialat all its office locations and giving it for Recycling. The Recycling of waste leads to huge environmental benefits like saving trees, water conservation , reducing landfills etc.
'Harith Andhra Pradesh' Initiative, Andhra Pradesh
Harith Andhra Pradesh16th July 2010, Gati partnered with the AP Government towards turning the state into ‘Harith Andhra Pradesh’. This first of its kind initiative to plant a million trees on a single day had been taken up by the state government to fulfil the cherished dream of late Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in turning the state into ‘Harith Andhra Pradesh’, and in turn towards the larger cause of ‘Global Warming’.

This drive, envisaged planting a whopping One Million Saplings in just one day across Andhra Pradesh. As part of this historic tree plantation program, GATI-KWE provided the complete logistic support needed for organising transportation of the saplings from nurseries to various plantation sites.

Plantation of the Green Belt under Metro Track
Plantation of the GreeGati strongly believes in its responsibility towards the environment. One such initiative undertaken by Gati in the year 2010-11 was the plantation and maintenance of the Green Belt under the Metro Track in Gurgaon, Delhi to offset carbon emissions. As part of this initiative, Gati had planted about 150 tall trees and 300 shorter trees over a stretch of one and a half kilometers to offset carbon dioxide emission. The trees which were planted included Ficus panda (perennial green tree), Bottle Brush (flowering tree), Badelia (ground cover-to prevent evaporation and top soil loss and soil cover for less dust). This would offset approx 1500 to 2500 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Tsunami relief fund
Tsunami relief fundThe tsunami that struck South East Asia on December 2004 was one of nature's worst disasters ever. It left in its wake more than 10 lakhs people dead and over four million displaced. The tsunami relief operations have been hailed as one of the fastest and most massive operations ever. Gati was one of the first to reach the rescue scenes at Nagapattnam and Cuddalore. Gati brought in food, water, clothing, medication and a team of doctors. The team took special care of children, who were the most affected and also provided the community with essential utensils like plates, glasses etc.

Maye village, Bhuj district, Gujarat On 26 January 2001, Gujarat was hit by a massive earthquake. Bhuj district is the worst affected. Gati personnel sprang into action and reached Maye village on the same day to provide food, clothing, medication and water to the earthquake-affected community. A team of doctors were also brought in to provide medical aid to the 400 families in Maye. Gati was the first to build makeshift houses for these families -(houses that were scientifically designed to resist earthquakes). Even today, though the villagers have managed to rebuild their homes, they still retain these structures.

Relief initiative to the Assam Flood survivors
Relief initiative to the Assam Flood survivorsAssam, the north-eastern state in India experienced the worst floods in several years, in June 2012, 27 of its 28 districts were inundated. The state which is surrounded by the mighty Brahmaputra river and many of its tributaries breached their banks because of the heavy downpours, washing away thousands of homes, leaving lakhs of people displaced, and also killed hundreds of animals at Kaziranga National Park. Army and rescue workers from the National Disaster Response Force had been deployed for rescue and relief efforts, while military helicopters airlifted people and dropped food. GATI-KWE stepped in to make it small contribution to the relief operations being carried out, by Oxfam, by dedicating GATI-KWE vehicles to carry relief materials to the flood affected areas. In addition to this, a dedicated warehouse space was also provided for storage of relief materials that needed to be transported to the affected areas.

Support to "Thara"
Maye village, Bhuj district, Gujarat "Thara" is a charitable non-profit organization that takes special interest in the welfare of children who are deprived of a family. GATI-KWE extends its support to this cause by regularly visiting the children at their centres and distributing notebooks and play materials.

On 12th Jan 2013, the GATI-KWE team in association with Share India (MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences) organized for a medical checkup camp for the children at Thara . The tests conducted at the camp included a general checkup (height, weight, BP), dermatology, ear, eye & dental checkup and hemoglobin test. The children were also vaccinated for TT and Hepatitis and given de-worming medicines. Some students who were detected with having medical problems were provided with medicines. Post the completion of the tests, the doctors present in the camp advised the children on the do's and don'ts for their personal hygiene. The camp concluded by distributing refreshments among the children.
Joy of Giving week (2nd-8th Oct 2012)
Gati participated in the "Joy of Giving Week" – the festival of philanthropy, by urging all Gati'ites to come forward and donate clothes, books & toys which could then be given to the underprivileged & needy in the rural areas. Gati’ites in large numbers came forward and donated generously towards this cause.
Health checkup camp for drivers & handlers
Gati conducted a health checkup camp for the drivers & handlers at its Express Distribution Centre in Hyderabad. Going by the overwhelming response received at this camp, Gati has planned to conduct similar camps in all of its other major centers in India.
Blood Donation Camp
Blood Donation Camp17th September, 2012 - Corporate Social Responsibility has always been at the heart of affairs at GATI. Every year on 17th September ,the death anniversary of our founder Late Shri P.D. Agarwal, GATI organizes blood donation camps. This year, a large camp was organized at the Gati Head Office, Hyderabad in association with the Red Cross Society of India. The camp witnessed a large number of employees coming forward to donate blood for this noble cause. The blood collected at this camp would be used mainly for thalassemia children.
January 2011, Team Gati, Jaipur celebrated Makar Sankranti at Aashray Care Home
Team Gati celebrated the festival of Makar Sankranti with the differently-abled kids at Aashray Care Home, Jaipur on January 11, 2011. All the Jaipur Gati'ites and Gati associates came together to extend their affection and care at Aashray Care Home by enjoying and celebrating the kite festival with tiny tots at the center.
Construction of Work Sheds for the flood affected weavers in Rajouli
Handloom shed in RajouliRajouli village, known for its famous Gadwal sarees was among one of the worst affected villages in Mahabubnagar district, Andhra Pradesh that was hit by the floods in the first in the first week of October 2009. The floods shattered the lives of the weavers who lost their looms as well as their houses. Gati took up the responsibility to revive the handloom weavers' community of Rajouli village and acquired 2 acres of land in that village to construct worksheds. Proper arrangements in terms of water, lighting, ventilation and washrooms for the weavers were also done. The first workshed was inaugurated in Sept 2010 which could accommodate 40 weavers. After the success of the first shed and based on the demand for another shed by the weavers, Gati went ahead and constructed a second Work shed, which was inaugurated on 23rd Dec 2011. Both the sheds together can accommodate 78 weavers. Apart from constructing the worksheds, a yarn spinning machine was also provided to the weavers. With the aim of helping the weavers futher, an NGO has also been appointed who would train them with improved techniques of weaving which would lead to increased output both in terms of Quantity and quality. The NGO would further help the weavers in developing links with the market for selling their products, getting support form the Banks and keeping them up to date with the market trends.
Christmas Party 2009
Christmas Party 2009December 2009, Gati celebrated it's Christmas party in a very special way, by visiting children at orphanages across Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai. A special Christmas program was conducted by the Gati team to spread the joy of Christmas. The team distributed sweets, cakes and gifts to children and made it a memorable Christmas for one and all.

 

Education

Adult Literacy Program
Adult Literacy Program GATI-KWE provided support to the 'Adult Literacy Program' - a development project initiated by CII, for imparting quality education to the tribals in Khammam and Vishakhapatnam districts.

A Study carried out in those districts had indicated that there is a strong need for development in those areas - specifically in the area of education. The literacy level among the Tribals was found to be just about 17-20%. By initiating this Adult Literacy Program, CII, along with the support of its partner GATI - KWE, aims at providing education to about 150 adults per quarter which would improve the literacy level among the tribals in those areas.

GATI-KWE is supporting this unique CSR initiative as CII's Technology Partner as well as Logistics Partner by donating computers as well as transporting them to Visakhapatnam for this cause.
MC High School, Nagore, Tamil Nadu
MC High School, Nagore, Tamil Nadu Gati undertook the development of the MC High School at Nagore, which was a tsunami affected dustrict in Tamil Nadu and constructed a building with 18 rooms, a kitchen and toilets. Presently the school provides education to over 500 children from the Tsunami affected families. The School was recently awarded as the 'Best Government School' in the Nagore area.
After rehabilitating tsunami-affected people at Nagapattnam and Cuddalore, Gati went a step further and undertook the development of MC High School at Nagore. This school includes about 500 students from the tsunami-affected families. Gati constructed a building with 18 rooms , a kitchen and toilets.
Gati Government School, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
 GATI-KWE Government Gati partnered with the Government of AP and built a school building with 27 classrooms, washrooms and a large palyground. The School which currently provides education to over 1000 students was declared as a "Model Government School" in the year 2011. Gati financially supports the school in conductiong yearly events and undertakes all expenses related to house-keeping, security and maintenance.
Joining Hands with Hyderabad Goods Transport Association (HGTA)
Joining Hands with Hyderabad Goods Transport Association (HGTA) Gati joined hands with Hyderabad Goods Transport Association in setting up the Transport Training & Development Institute (TTDI), a state of the art truck drivers and transport employees training school cum grooming centre at Autonagar in Hyderabad. The TTDI is the first of its kind initiative to train the personnel of transport sector which includes truck drivers, cleaners, hamalis (transport labours), staff of transporters, etc.

The objective of TTDI is to empower commerical vehicle drivers with all the essential safety practices so that they face the roads with a much greater responsibility. In addition, the fleet drivers are trained in improved driving skills, basic mechanics, fuel saving techniques and safe practices. The institute which is the 9000 sqft two storied facility with modern and updated mechanical and electrical labs, including a computer lab which would groom truck drivers and transport workers not just in matters of automobiles but also soft skills, English, computers, online operations and Google map reading.
Logistics support to Sankya Project
Gati has partnered with Rotary Club and is providing logistics support to their Sankya Program. The Sankya Program bridges the gap between the demand for Computer Literacy in government and unaided schools and the availability of used computer systems with the industry, by collecting the used systems, refurbishing them with legal OS and redeploying them in the schools. Gati supports them by providing the logistics support needed to carry this out.
